This isn't about a cancer patient, this is the wife of one, mine. After the news that I had cancer, the first thing that one thinks of is "IS THIS IT"....My wife shared the news first hand at our doctors appointment and also shared the horror of the disease with me. Through the next 8 months, the 53 days of radiation, a total larengectomy and partial lung removal, I'm happy to be able to sit here and type this. We, as cancer survivors always hear about how wonderful it is that we have survived, and the sadness for those who have gone through what I did, but didn't make it, having gone through what most couldn't even imagine. The family, particularly my wife, stood next to me through the entire list of events, from daily hospital visits for 3 months, and then daily with me in the hospital through two major surgeries and the month in the hospital. Then at home, still with tubes in me for about 2 weeks until my recovery and strength allow me to have them removed. I want to dedicate this to my wife of 37 years, without whose love, care and help I honestly don't think I could have gone through what I did. Thank the families of those who were not as fortunate as mine, for their dedication and love they showed as well during the battles, the families of the survivors, the ones that were always counted on and who would always be there when needed, who did the home care, the TLC, this my friend is something that usually goes unnoticted, except for the patients. I have been blessed with a family like that, and so has Karen, her memory not only will go on through you, but she reigns high in my heart as well.
As of this past Wednesday, I've gone through my 3 clear years and have now extended my visits from 3 months to 6 months.
My son will be in touch to ride again this year, and I will be sponsoring him. God Bless you for what you're doing, keep up the good work.
